[解説]
浅野忠信監督「トーリ」についてのドキュメンタリー映画「ソラノ」でその型破りな才能を遺憾なく発揮し、“クリエイティブ”という大胆なテーマを大胆に解剖した山岡信貴の長編劇映画３作目がこの「pig’s inferno」である。
あえてジャンル分けするならミュージカルであるがその範疇に収まらない凄惨な内容であるこの作品は、すでに海外の映画祭では公開済であったにもかかわらず、配給会社の倒産など数々のトラブルの渦中に巻き込まれ幻の映画となっていた。
前半の擬似ドキュメンタリーのスタイルからクライマックスの謎めいた黙示録的風景に描き出される悲しい愛の物語は、いまだいかなる映画も描き得なかった美意識に満たされ、主な出演者がたった二人であるにもかかわらず、奇跡的な広がりと深みをもって観る者の心に迫る比類なき映像作品に仕上がっている。
[物語]
幼い我が子である兄妹を監禁し、彼らの愛の軌跡を綴った作家、小林重吉。
その書籍名「pig’s inferno」。
脱稿後、小林は謎の失踪、物語の真偽は不明なまま歳月は過ぎていった…。
ドキュメンタリー作家のスナフキンは「pig’s inferno」の真相を探るうち、
その本に登場した監禁された兄と思われる青年に出会う。
青年は牢に篭り、独り原稿を書き続けている。その内容は妹キョウカの想い出。
記憶の深遠の果てまで彼女を追い求め、書き終えたその日に命を絶つのだという。
スナフキンは街で出会った若い女占い師ローミを連れ、青年に死を思いとどまらせようとするのだが、ローミの過去を巻き込んで、事態は生死の境を超越した引き返すべくもない運命をたどって行く。

Nobutaka Yamaoka has shown his unconventional talent and boldly analyzed the bold theme he terms “creative” in his latest work “Sorano,” a documentary film on “Tori” directed by Tadanobu Asano. “Pig’s Inferno” is his 3rd feature film. It can be categorized as a musical, if you will, but with its dreadful story beyond all categories, despite already having been released at the overseas film festivals, it has become a phantom film, involved in several troubles such as the bankruptcy of the distribution agency. It will be the very first showing in Japan at long last. The sad love story, starting with the mockumentary style and ending with mysterious apocalyptic scenery, is full of aesthetic feelings never found in any past films, and although there are only two main characters, it is an unparalleled film that gets under the skin of the viewers with its miraculous spatiality and depth.
